Learn the art of kintsugi.

Clara offers simple workshops where participants learn     a mixture of western and traditional Japanese restoration techniques to make their own kintsugi repairs.

Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese art form that involves the restoration of damaged pottery using layers of natural urushi tree-sap lacquer, often finished with gold or other metal powders such as brass. The roots of kintsugi date at least as far back as 7040 BCE, with the early use of urushi as an adhesive and for embellishment.

Today the tradition of kintsugi is evolving globally, expressed in different materials and contexts and expressing meaning that is relevant to contemporary culture… such as generational healing, grief process, reparation, transparency, unravelling perfectionism and shame, mindfulness, slow culture, gratitude and sustainability.

Kintsugi is a slow, mindful practice, making space for quiet focus, contemplation and relaxed conversation. The process is enjoyable and the results are beautiful pieces that are visual expressions of journey, story and intentional care.
